Size of colonial territories
The expansive territory that the colonies occupied made it hard for the British to fight a concentrated war that they were used to.
- While the colonists were able to wage war without worrying about supplies or having enough soldiers in any one colony, these same issues created great challenges for the British.
- The British, having few supplies and soldiers, had to focus efforts on the big cities and more important areas. This did not prove effective because even if they did conquer the cities, they still had a tremendous amount of land to conquer.
- At various points in the war, Britain was able to conquer key cities, however, it did not make a difference in the long run.
